For me Markus and Izzy have left the best to last for Facet February - as we get a second chance to order this fantastic ballsy modern leaning take on the Fuzz Face. As always Markus has selected a superb pair of NOS Silicon Transistors for the job - 2 x MicroElectronics C1016Y Yellow Dots - these are essentially the higher gain grade of the red dot ME-C1016’s used in the RedDotSound.
Markus describes this unique Fuzz Face take as :
"This fuzz F@ce has a greasy mid range and a very ballsy fierce character. No glassy cleanup here, but for the amount of fuzz and fatness it still does a great job still keeping its dynamics intact as you turn down your guitar volume."
These are all entirely built by Izzy Reeves - who overseas every part of the DaughterBoard Series production cycle. And where the other 3 Facets have a Trim pot as the 3rd control - the Facet IZ has a more easily understood Tone Control. This is basically a full-fat ballsy take on a Fuzz Face - it doesn’t have quite the same degree of guitar volume cleanup - but then again this was made to be played loud and full-on!
Since before I visited Reeves HQ last year - in the run-up to the first batch TwinSound and Facet IZ releases - I was already taken by the IZ - and particularly so in its original prototype format as above!
There was no question that I would miss out on this the second time around - and thus this is my #1 pick for Facet February! I also really like the Facet FF and Facet VX - and will hopefully be picking those up from later batches.
The acquisition of the Facet IZ brings my Reeves Electro Capsule Collection up to a solid 5 pedals - and obviously hot on the heels of the recent BHS-D. Were money no object I would for sure go for the full set of 4 Facets - which will set you back a pretty wallet-punishing £1,076. As mentioned previously though, I have to share out the love each month - and can't rationalise putting quite so much into a single brand in one month. I will likely own all 4 Facets eventually - it's just going to take a wee while. And I still need to acquire the Reeves TwinSound Octave Fuzz, and the Darlington Flyer. I will probably stay on the Facet mission to completion though - of course based on current release schedules! We al know priorities can shift - but the intention is to get at least 3 of the Facets mentioned - and pretty likely the whole set of 4 by the end!
Both the Facet IZ @ £259, and the Full Set of 4 Facets @ £1,076 can be ordered today 28th February for 24 hours - from the Reeves Electro webstore. I'm a little jealous of those who will be going for the whole set - will be interesting to see who lands all 4!
Order cycle runs from 00:01 to 23:59 GMT on the day of release - you can order one at any time within that specific ordering period. And of course a set of all 4 on the 28th.
