25 of these go up for sale in the usual fashion - tomorrow Saturday 9th December at 8pm GMT - so start your engines now! And make sure to add the Facet IZ Web Page to your bookmarks!
The Facet IZ is of course Markus’s unique take on the Fuzz Face - with some cool Reeves Electro touches throughout - part of the DaugterBoard Series - wholly looked after by daughter Izzy - who prepares, primes, assembles and tests each and every one of these in their entirety!
Markus has a number of magical parts bins - probably more than most - filled to the brim with rare, unique and unusual parts - including of course several stripes of unobtanium silicon transistors. Up for this challenge are a pair of fantastic sounding Micro Electronics C1016Y yellow dot transistors - hence the specific hue of enclosure - inside and out.
The prototype had yellow circuitboards with silver tracks - as pictured below - and which I really like! Markus has been sharing pictures of that prototype for the last couple of weeks. For the actual production units he prefers the more vintage styled boards - sort of dark brass coloured boards - with copper tracks - which also look really great. My personally I kind of prefer the boards on the prototype - fort that full-on carry -through of yellow hue!
The Facet IZ fuzz is best described in Markus's own words :
"Controls are Fuzz, Vol and Tone. This fuzz F@ce has a greasy mid range and a very ballsy fierce character. No glassy cleanup here, but for the amount of fuzz and fatness it still does a great job still keeping its dynamics intact as you turn down your guitar volume."
In terms of manufacture - all processes are carried out by hand - including screen-printed facia design using super glossy old school enamel ink. Really gives a beautiful solid, and high quality finish to the pedal.
These pedals take a standard Boss style power supply - 2.1mm barrel 9V DC [-] with minimal current draw.
Pricing for the Facet IZ's is about as accessible as you get for a Reeves Electro pedal - at a very reasonable £259. They can be procured on the Facet IZ Web Page at exactly 8pm GMT on Saturday 9th December (Tomorrow!) - for those with the fastest reflexes (and most reliable internet!).
I personally am next in line to acquire a BHS-DLX, and then I've got to play catch-up on the various Reeves Electro ones I've missed out on to-date. I'm lagging a little behind now!
It's very hard for me to keep up with everyone as I am involved with so many different builders and so many different projects - it really gets dizzying at times! And there's only so much budget to go around - I have to share the love!
I took a real shine to the Facet IZ on my recent visit to Markus's Workshop - while my current Fuzz Face total / collection is slowly encroaching on 100 - I think I'm in mid-to-high 90's currently! Still space for one more quality specimen though!
I'm a huge fan of tone-on-tone - in terms of colour coordination - and love the carry-through of Yellow Dot Transistors, Yellow Capacitors - and Yellow internal and external paint-jobs!
I still think those 25 units will go pretty quickly - best of luck to all on the night! I'm going to have to circle round for my own Facet IZ a little later on (2024!) - this one's definitely worth the chase!
