This all started off for me when I visited the Reeves Family Workshop #1 back in November of last year - and where I first laid eyes on the prototype version of the Facet IZ - that one had a yellow board and matching daughter-board with silver tracks, instead of the core standard vintage style Reeves copper coloured boards with copper tracks - you can compare that with the below standard edition. I love tone-on-tone combinations - and the fully yellow hued through-and-through colouring of the prototype really captivated me then and now!
I determined that when I got in on a pre-order batch, I would try my luck and request that my Facet IZ include a prototype style board and daughterboard. Markus and Izzy said they would check their parts bins to see if they had any of those still remaining. And fortunately my luck was in - which you can see in the main visual - and where the serial number for the unit is #000 - indicating its prototype status. All those various components for me perfectly match and complement the all-yellow colourway, and I'm delighted to own this specific design masterpiece!
The pedal came with the optional transparent base-plate per the photo / visual - which really sets things off beautifully - as is seen in the top visual, and below.
This is exactly my kind of Fuzz Face - with its fairly untypical 3rd Tone Control knob which confers further extended range and granularity. It's deliberately somewhat modern sounding and mids-forward - so that it can really cut through the mix beautifully.
I am delighted to have finally acquired my first Daughteboard Series pedal - and this is my 5th Reeves Electro fuzz pedal overall - so plenty more to go. I would of course love to own them all - and may very well do so eventually - while I have a lot of different priorities to juggle ongoingly, and I need to share the love in terms of supporting around 400 or so different brands. You have to share the love a little - so you can never get in too much of one brand at one time - unless there's some kind of special offer or deal - which is rarely the case for hand-made pedals, and particularly not point-to-point ones!
For me - this variant of Fuzz Face is one of the greats of that genre - and with all those elements matched up - the superior tone profile and aesthetics - it's really a no-brainer to want to want one of these.
Hopefully some more of you went for one of these Facet IZ's during the last Mega Waitlist Wednesday - I couldn't imagine anyone would not love to own one of these. Thank you once more to Izzy and Markus Reeves for honouring my wishes!
I would imagine there would be another pre-order slot for the Facet IZ in the not too distant future - definitely worth getting onboard one of those. Actually very fairly priced at £259 on the Reeves Electro Webstore - of course when available for pre-order!
My current favourite settings are - Volume @ 3 o'c, Tone @ Noon, Fuzz @ 2 o'c. This circuit really doesn't need any improvement - but I would still quite like to see the Bass Boost toggle-switch from the BlackHatSound added! This is a wonderful sounding distinct Fuzz Face, quite different to the norm, and with considerable range on each of those dials for very significant tone-shaping.
