This post was inspired by the recent Great Eastern FX Co OC201 Preamp and latest James Dean Bradfield TPS Episode - which featured the MXR Fat Sugar. Those 2 Hot Pink Pedals kind of set the scene / tone for this - and I thought I would do a tribute to my Guitar Nerds Podcast Friends - Joe and Matt - who favour this particular hue of pedals. Would be interesting to know how many of these they have to date!
For me personally - I have the Alexander Hot Pink Drive and Life Is Unfair Violet Oscillation. I’m hoping David Greeves is going to come through soon on the OC201 he committed to making me. And James Dean Bradfield has kind of encouraged me to pick up a Fat Sugar - to further replicate that Ernie Isley ’Summer Breeze’ tone. I do have a Greer Lightspeed, but it’s a rather less vibrant off-white with pale blue stripe and accents variety. Some of these may be discontinued or hard to find currently - like the Bondi Effects Art Van Delay!
I could have done a slightly larger selection - while this one has the right symmetry of format - to fit in with the ’Colour Means’ visuals I did a few years back. This one is also a follow-up of sorts from the Dominant Pedal Colours Article - while there is no uniform pattern here as to specific genre type - no brand or genre has wholly claimed the Hot Pink colourway exclusively to-date - we will need to wait and see what pattern if any emerges after a further decade or so.
My selection of 9 consists of the following pedals :
As mentioned up top I have or will have 5 of these for sure. It’s not a hue I specifically collect - however cool / hot it looks!
It certainly makes for a striking visual!
Here follow the usual individual details below :
Controls - Level, Drive, Bass, Contour (Mids), Treble.
The sound of 80's Neon Nights on the Sunset Strip - a cool singing lead-line distortion.
All the current demos of this pedal are every way wrong! This is designed for those Neon 80's Lead Lines - none of the demos really feature this as it should be!
Controls - Time, Depth,, Rate, Level, 3-way Sub Division, Feedback.
A great sounding Analog Delay that first emerged in 2018, but has been in very short supply since - current legend assigned to this listing reads (Coming Soon!) - so due to be rebooted any day soon hopefully!
Controls - Filter, Gain / Sustain, Volume.
A neat take on the David Gilmour Civil War Muff
Controls - Fuzz, Level.
NOS Silicon Transistor Loaded beautifully textured Fuzzy-Drive / Fuzz.
Controls - Loudness, Drive, Frequency.
Actually a really cool and unique take on the Timmy Overdrive - one of the most loved Low Gain Overdrives
Controls - Delay Time, Repeat, Delay Level.
One of the best loved early 80's Analog Delay Units
Controls - Volume, Fuzz, Bass, Treble, Oscillate Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
Glorious sounding Oscillating Shoegaze Fuzz.
Controls - Volume, Tone, Drive
Slightly fatter sounding Klone - James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) uses it to recreate Ernie Isely 'Summer Breeze' Tones - as will I!
Controls - Bass, Contour, Treble, Volume Gain.
Signature Distortion for Perfecto De Castro - based on the 1994 Marshall Shredmaster! James Dean Bradfield uses an original Shredmaster to create his 'Motorcycle Emptiness' Lead tone! I may get one of these if I can find one in the earlier Hot Pink colourway! Update - found one locally to me - should be on its way to me now!
