The 4th and final variant of the Facet family. This is based on the 2-transistor Tone Bender variety made by the Italian Jen Factory - for Vox - in 1966.
It has the least amount of low-end of any of the Tone Benders / Fuzz Faces - and can be considered to have a somewhat Treble Booster like profile - with enhanced highs. Lots of players love it because its somewhat brighter profile tends to cut through more in the mix.
Markus has unearthed some really special vintage Philips silver-face BC546 Silicon Transistors - which verily deliver the same sort of dynamics as the original Germanium varieties used in the source model. And where the MK 1.5 Tone Bender runs fairly close to its follow-up Fuzz Face variety tonality in its profile - the Vox Tone Bender has a noticeably different and distinct output.
As always - these are hand-made by Izzy Reeves to the highest standards. I would have loved to have gone for one of these this month - while my preferred Facet candidate (getting one at a time!) for February is the Facet IZ - which is up for orders next week! I’ll have to bide my time a while - before I pick this one up at an opportune time in the hopefully relatively near future.
I said before that I really want to own all of these - but I already own nearly a 100 varieties of 2-Transistor Fuzz - and so initially I’m targeting the more unusual ones first. First the Facet IZ, then the Facet VX, then FF, and finally 1.5!
Controls - Volume, Trim, Fuzz.
As for 3 of the pedals in this selection - the only new thing you really need to be aware of is the Trim control :
"The trim has some hidden magic - This controls the pedals input resistance. Fully clockwise the control is out of the circuit, so as you turn the knob anti clockwise it will increase the input impedance and reduce the saturation at the output. This is useful for many reasons, such as playing high output pickups or running a wah pedal before the fuzz. It can also be used to take the edge off the saturation and help with clean-up from the guitar volume and fatness. it still does a great job still keeping its dynamics intact as you turn down your guitar volume."
The Facet VX is now available for order within its 24-hour order cycle - where it is priced at £259.
Order cycle from 00:01 to 23:59 GMT on the day of release - you can order one at any time within that specific ordering period. And of course a set of all 4 on the 28th.
