The 3rd in the Facet series to be released - following the Mid-Forward Facet IZ (Yellow), and recent Facet 1.5 Tone Bender variant (Red).
This cool Cyan hued facia edition is based on the Type 3 Germanium Voiced Silicon BC183 Edition (Type I is NKT275, Type II is BC108/BC109. Markus lucked out in securing original 1969 Texas Instrument BC183’s - from a batch actually ordered by Arbiter back in 1969.
I have several BC183 Fuzz Faces in the collection - it’s very common for when trying to replicate the warm grit and harmonics of the original NKT275 type - and quite different sounding to the more strident Silicon Type II BC108 and BC109 types.
As I mentioned before - I would love to own each of these variants of Facet - that is to say all 4 - but I haven’t really the means to invest so much of the budget in to a single brand in one month - I’m always juggling multiple priorities and obligations - and I have to share the love around!
We already know the Reeves standard - those pedals have an incredible raw and elemental nature to them - very much full-flavoured and exactly how I like my fuzzes. I will need to pick these up one-by-one - and the one earmarked for this month is the Facet FF. Obviously these use NOS parts - and there is component scarcity - so chances are I may not be able to get my hands on all of these to my timescale - we shall see!
Controls - Volume, Trim, Fuzz.
The only thing you really need to be aware of here is the Trim control - which is fairly unique :
"The Trim has some hidden magic - this controls the pedals input resistance. Fully clockwise the control is out of the circuit, so as you turn the knob anti clockwise it will increase the input impedance and reduce the saturation at the output. This is useful for many reasons, such as playing high output pickups or running a wah pedal before the fuzz. It can also be used to take the edge off the saturation and help with clean-up from the guitar volume and fatness. it still does a great job still keeping its dynamics intact as you turn down your guitar volume."
The Facet FF is available for order within its 24-hour order cycle - and is priced at £299.
Order cycle from 00:01 to 23:59 GMT on the day of release - you can order one at any time within that period. And of course a set of all 4 on the 28th.
