I’m a huge fan of the Uni-Vibe / Vibe format of modulation, and Krozz Devices’ Murilo Carozza has created a very special and supremely versatile take on that format here in it 2nd evolution. You can immediately pick out the core Uni-vibe controls - of Level, Depth, Rate (Pulse), and Dry-Wet Mix (central toggle-switch).
But then we also have two very unique output shaping controls - labelled Spectrum and Shadow. The Spectrum is a core voicing / character control which accentuates Mids frequencies CCW, and gradually turns full-frequency as you dial it up - toward that Classic Uni-Vibe tonality. The Shadow control adjusts two things - the centre-point / duty cycle / symmetry of the Waveform, as well as its frequency accent - going from Treble-focused CCW, to balanced in the middle, and more Low-end focused fully CW. So you can select if you want a deeper more resonant output or something lighter and brighter!
Controls - Level, Spectrum (CCW Mids enhance, CW Classic full-frequency), Depth, Shadow (Frequency and Wave Symmetry : Highs > Balanced > Lows), Dry/Wet Mix : 50% Chorusing Vibe / 100% Vibrato, Pulse (Rate), Bypass Footswitch, Hold / Ramp Footswitch, Ramp Trim-pot on right side pedal, above the Expression port.
The combined prowess of those 6 controls gives you incredible range and versatility - where you can go from really subtle flutters to full-flavoured deeply resonant chorusing and vibrato. And the degree of shaping afforded here allows you to fully adjust the level and degree of modulation - to turn it to pretty much any purpose.
There's a further dimension added via the Left-hand Hold / Ramp footswitch - which works in tandem with a Ramp trim-pot (on the right-side of the pedal) and the Pulse / Rate control. Delivering that Rotary / Leslie style ramp up in Rate - which is something I personally really love and would / will use a lot. It's a feature I really love on the DryBell Vibe Machine - and something most Vibe / Uni-Vibe pedals don't have.
This definitely goes straight onto the acquisitions / wishlist, and I hope to be adding this to my Uni-Vibe capsule collection pretty soon, which currently stands at 14. Both this and the recent SolidGoldFX Aurras are essential additions for me to that capsule collection. And it will be interesting to see which one of those I land first!
The Krakenheart Uni/Vibe is available to order now on the Krozz Devices Webstore - where it goes for a very reasonable $269. My friend Steve at FX Pedal Planet is the UK dealer for Krozz - so hopefully these will be in stock there too imminently - likely @ £269.
Note that the enclosure is one of those narrow types that sits between 125B and 1590BB enclusers - at dimensions - 120mm x 80mm x 70mm.
