This lates Vox-Conqueror-inspired pedal covers the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour and White Albums. Interestingly ’Magical Mystery Tour’ is my brother’s favourite Beatles Album, while the White Album is my own second-favourite Beatles work. My favourite is of course ’Revolver’ - which is covered by Aclam’s previous Dr. Roberts pedal. And my 3rd favourite Beatles Album - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is ably covered by Aclam’s Mocker pedal.
Controls - Volume, Drive : Attack <> Sustain, MRB / Mid Range Boost Frequency : 1 / 2 / 3, Treble, Bass, Distortion Volume, Bypass / Overdrive Footswitch - hold for Crunch, Distortion Footswitch, Distoriton + Bypass Footswitch engages MRB Mid Range Boost - which you can also have separately on Overdrive and Crunch voicings.
The MRB Mid Range Boost gives you some excellent Mid-Pushed tones - including Cocked Wah - so possibly could be used for Mick Ronson tones to n some regard. That is engaged by pressing both Footswitches together and can be set on Overdive, Crunch and Distortion voices somewhat independently.
The name of the pedal and its artworks is inspired by George Harrison’s ’Rocky’ Stratocaster from that era (pictured also).
I’ve always admired Aclam for their engineering prowess - and this Go Rocky Go is every-way superb! It really sounds exceptional - and has so much built-in smarts - both in the core circuit design and creation, and those dynamic / smart multi-mode footswitches.
I’ve sometimes criticised this format of pedal as not being necessarily entirely to my ergonomic preferences and sensibilities - while the expansive controls and output of this pedal wholly justify the format here. This is some top-notch engineering on display!
Barcelona’s Aclam have always made some of the best sounding pedals out there - while those cutout dirt-traps on the pedal - which are in fact part of Aclam’s own on-rails Pedalboard system - pose a problem for me. Those cavities will attract dust and grime like nothing else - where I kind of understand the company’s philosophy for this system. While the vast majority of their Pedal customers will not be using those Aclam Pedalboards - and so those extra cavities are entirely surplus to requirements for most, and can be something of a turn-off. Which I believe to be particularly the case for the simpler pedals in the range.
This Go Rocky Go entirely earns its proportions - while those ergonomic flaws as such still remain. Part of me can’t help but thinking that those pedals would be more successful without those apertures! They should at least come with some sort of cavity covers for the majority of users that don’t have the Aclam Pedalboards! Indeed I think that should be the solution for everyone - cavity covers - to prevent grime!
In every other way this is an exceptionally attractive pedal - both in terms of look and sound. The Aclam formula is so detail-orientated - every aspect of this pedal is precisely considered and calibrated.
I understand there were a number of challenges to overcome in the circuit development - as there’s a high degree of internal complexity - which is not reflected on the surface.
This is another really worthy Vox-inspired Beatles gem! The Go Rocky Go pedal is available for orders now on the Aclam Webstore - where it goes for $329 (ex tax) and equivalent for US customers - remember that 20% tax is added for UK (£319) and Europe (€349). Should be imminent at leading international dealers too now.
Another fantastic release by Aclam - possibly their best to date - certainly from an overall engineering perspective!
