CTC’s Christos Ntaifotis innovates another brilliant dual combination gain pedal - with 2 voicings of Hitwatt Amp on the left Channel (100W and 50W models), and 2 voicings of the Colorsound Power Boost on the Right Channel.
He loads up those voicings with the perfect complement of controls for the most versatility and variety of tones, and wraps it all up in a cool hue of sort of British Racing Green.
This is such a quintessential classic British Voiced Pedal - that it’s a wonder it’s not been done sooner! The two Hiwatt voicings - based on the respective DR103 (100W) and DR504 (50W) Models - have quite different characters and degree of gain onset. And that is combined with the vintage way in how those amps were operated via two separate Channel Input - Normal and Bright - and here you can ’wire’ those together ’Linked’ just as you would on those original amps.
The Power Boost side then gives you both versions of that legendary Boost / Overdrive / Fuzz pedal - with both 9V and 18V voicings. Christos then adds in a further Send/Return FX Loop to perfect the Amp-in-a-box format and to insert Modulations and Time-Based Effects in particular.
Controls - HIWATT SIDE } Master, Amp Voicing : 103 (High Headroom & Dynamic Response) / 504 (Higher Gain & More Compressed), Presence, Input Channel : Bright / Linked (Both) / Normal, Volume, Bass, Treble, Middle, Hiwatt Footswitch, POWER BOOST SIDE } Master, Voicing : PWR (18V) / ODR (9V), Volume, Treble, Bass, Power Boost Footswitch.
I love everything about this combination - the look, construction, features and controls. I can’t see how this could have been made any better. Christos is definitely the master of these types of combination Amps-in-a-box. And this is surely his most unique one yet.
Obviously you cannot mention this combination without touching on David Gilmour - who was the first to use the Linked Input Hiwatt Models - and for whom the Hiwatt DR103 and Colorsound Power Boost were an essential part of his peak tone!
There really is no need to go into further detail here - everything about this is just perfect - through to the top-mounted jacks. The Hi Power is for sure an ultimate snapshot of that 1969 - 1975 peak David Gilmour / Pink Floyd era. While it’s potent for all really - and not just Gilmour and Floyd fans.
This one goes straight on the wishlist! What a totally perfect execution!
The CTC Hi Power is of course available for orders now via the Crazy Tube Circuits Webstore, and imminently at leading international dealers - where it goes for €279 / $289 and equivalent - surely really good value.
