What we have here is the third major iteration of CTC’s well-loved Stardust Overdrive - designed to capture the sound and response of 3 distinct maxed out and ready to sing Blackface amplifier models.
It consists of an all-analog signal path with discrete gain stages featuring MOSFET transistors, delivering juicy overdriven tones with great note separation that clean up for that sparkly and articulate sound that we all so love - from those classic early recordings.
This time around the Volume, Tone and Gain controls are joined by a 3-way Voicing selector - which helps you to specifically emulate 3 of the most classic Blackface style amps :
BSM (Bassman) : Voiced after a Blackface amp head that was primarily targeted for bass guitar players but sort of got even more famous for its electric guitar classic rock tones
VLX (Vibrolux) : Voiced after a chimey 2x10” combo offering the perfect amount of controllable crunch
DLX (Deluxe) : Voiced after one of the most popular low wattage 1×12″ combo amps that have found their
way into countless recording studios and live music venues around the world
The Stardust V3 now comes with top mounted jacks and a soft-click true bypass footswitch via a high-quality relay.
The pedal has loads of output volume and enhanced headroom - provided by an internally boosted 18 Volts - generated from a 9V DC input. So it can also be used as a Preamp going straight into your Power Amp or Audio Interface when combined with a suitable separate speaker simulation device.
The Stardust V3 3-Voice Mosfet Overdrive is available right now courtesy of the Crazy Tube Circuits Webstore - where it retails for €199 / $199 and equivalent.
I know a number of you favour Fender Amps - how many of you are excited by this compact box of tricks?
