So it’s only about a month late - but the fantastic looking Custom Shop Light Bending Halo is finally in and on the board. It’s evident from the enclosure how tricky a task the engraving was - as you can see on mine - a tiny flaw on the lower bar of the ’L’ in Halo - that there is a tiny sliver that was somehow omitted from the engraving - also a slight imperfection on the upper middle circle of the Halo logo. But apart from that pretty flawless and unique!
It’s a real boon to me that I don’t need to do a separate picture of the insides - as you can clearly see the internals though the transparent etched top. I’m guessing the etching was the main challenge for the production of this pearl - and they likely needed to order in several more ’top-plates’ as some of those didn’t come out in sufficient quality. For mostly digital pedals this kind of design works really well - as you don’t need to worry about RFI interference that you would normally get with discrete parts like transistors - meaning fuzzes would be very susceptible to interference and artefacts without full metal shielding.
The pedal legends are actually really crisp and clear - and the pedal is super attractive in this format. Alas very limited (only 100 units made) and very pricey if you live in the UK like I - the pedal itself was near enough $400, with shipping an additional $40, and then a further £92 in customs and import duties - so a really pricey buy all-round. While I don’t buy these types of pedals too often. And as I always planned to get a Halo - I feel very privileged to have one in this format!
Keeley have really been on a role with their custom shop creations of late - and I’ve acquired a fair few of those pedals - as you will have seen on this site.
One of my readers also spotted a Andy Timmons GNI Octafuzz in the wild for me - but the timing wasn’t right, and there were some complications with that particular platform - so I had to take a pass on that for now.
The pedal-chain is quite different already for the month - with several of the Andy Timmons pedals already off the board - but enough variants still in circulation to do the great man justice - really nice to have the Halo on the board at last in any case.
I covered the pedal in detail when it was launched - so this is really just something of a postscript with the bare minimum of details, Please refer to the earlier Halo post for more details and demos!
