Nobels adds the cool CHO-mini Stereo Chorus / Flanger to its Mini Pedal Range

Nobels is really on a roll with its superb value Mini Pedal Range. Where it’s released a second Mini Stereo Pedal - this time a Chorus / Flange.

I can’t see that this is a direct take on either of the Nux Mini Choruses - the Mini Super Chorus and Ukiyo-E Chorus. It’s closer to the SCF style Super Chorus - but the 3rd mode on that as such is a Pitch-Modulation / Vibrato - which the mode description actually roughly fits - so it may be a variation of that one.

Controls - Rate, Width, Mix : Dry > Wet, Mode : Chorus 1 / Chorus 2 / Flanger, Hold Footswitch for 2 Seconds for Tap Tempo.

The 3 CHO-Mini Modes are described as follows :

  • CHORUS 1 - This emulates the coveted and well-established bucket-brigade style of chorus pedal tones from the 70s. You know ’THAT’ Chorus sound that is instantly recognisable from many popular recordings. (Presumably Boss CE-2 vs CE-1)
  • CHORUS 2  - Based on a different flavour of stereo chorus, ’Chorus 2’ allows for a higher rate towards the end of the control range, enabling pleasing vibrato like textures.
  • FLANGER - While not a flanger tone in a traditional sense, this mode emulates another extremely popular (and rare and expensive in its original form) chorus pedal from the 70s, in its subtle flanging mode. Think of this as a comb-filter phasing of the signal (like feedback on a delay), focussing on its luscious general character and without becoming too extreme.

At $99 and equivalent - the CHO-mini is superb value - same price as the previous DEL-mini Stereo Delay, while the ODR-mini 2 is even better values at just $79. The CHO-Mini will imminently be at all key International Dealers.

I’m feeling that this issue a really smart move by Nobels. There’s obviously some sort of Nux connection here - would be good to have some transparency as to who the manufacturing partner is!

These mini stereo pedals (using TRS) are a game-changer. I’ve said before that I never thought we would have stereo capabilities in Mini pedals - so I’m very much looking forward to seeing where we’re heading next!  Mini pedals don’t have the surface area and real estate to accommodate as complex a circuit or feature set as a Compact Pedal can - while contemporary mini pedals are miles ahead of where they were just a few years ago.

You can read up more on the CHO-mini on the Nobels Website.

I personally still have a preference for Analog Chorus pedals - white there are very few of those that will do full-stereo, especially in this form factor. I feel this particular Mini Chorus will end up as a secret weapon for many!
