Formula B has produced several different Screamer style pedals to-date, while this one is definitely its most potent one - utilising superior rare components to harness the essence of TS808, TS9 and TS10 Ibanez classics.
You have 2 internal switches which select which Screamer flavour you are applying - the left switch is TS9|TS10 / TS808, and the right one is TS10 / Ø. If the right switch is to the right you’re choosing either TS-9 or TS808 flavours, with the right switch to the left - you’re getting either TS10 or TS808 flavours on the left one - so you can have both TS808 and TS10 Modes applied together if you wish - which is very unique!
There is also of course JHS Pedals’ Bonsai 9-Mode Screamer ($249 / £219) which is obviously a relatively direct competitor. While the That Screamer makes use of somewhat rarer and higher fidelity components.
There are so many different Tube Screamers out there that for me to notice yet another variety - it has to have a little bit extra in tow - and that is definitely the case for this one. I think I have over a score Tube Screamers already in my collection, so I’m not in any great hurry to add another.
While If I was looking to add one more to my Screamer Reference Collection - the That Screamer would definitely be my first choice.
The That Screamer Overdrive Pro 4558 goes for €199 / £179 / $239, and is available from my good friend Jim at Boost Guitar Pedals. My good French friends at Palf also have it for Continental buyers, and you can of course go direct to the Italian Formula B Webstore if you live in and around that general area!
