Supposedly the world’s best loved Autowah / Envelope Filter - has been improved further - for better headroom to match up with any scenario, a new Side Chain Input, and some refinements to the super clean boost.
The charm of the DiscumBOBulator has always been its simplicity in use - just 4 knobs to thing about - and the Boost one is optional. You simply decide if the Filter Slope is Up or Down, and then you tune in the Funk!
I have a plethora of Envelope Filter pedals that serve as really great auto-wahs mostly for my purposes. Those are mostly in either compact enclosure format, or with a considerably extended feature set - like on the latest Subdecay Prometheus 3 Dual Super Filter - which is the King of Filters as afar as I’m concerned.
I’ve always loved the sound of the DiscumBOBulator though, but have had a somewhat hard time rationalising the stripped down feature set in such a relatively large enclosure! I feel this pedal would be much more useful in a more compact format factor.
That said - it looks and sounds great as is, and has a massive fan following. I’m still tempted of course, but I probably have other priorities in this area. For instance - I’ve always wanted the Jacques Stompboxes Trinity Wah Filter - Auto & Classic
Controls - Boost (0 > +10dB), Width (Q), Attack, Sense, Filter Slope / Up Down, Boost Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
Ports - Input, Side Chain Input (New), 9V DC [-] <10mA, Output.
The DiscumBOBulator V3 is well priced @ $249 | €219 | £189 - where there’s only a couple of Reverb.com listings so far out there along with Thomann, and for some reason the Emma Electronic Website is still showing the older V2 Edition. A little strange really, but not unheard of - the Danish Carl Martin website is also often updated significantly after its new pedals find their way into circulation.
If you’re happy with the form factor - then this is one of the best sounding Auto-Wah’s out there - and it’s found support with Bass as well as Guitar Players. I personally am still in something of a holding pattern. I might consider an opportunistic acquisition of this pedal, but I feel I have other more pressing priorities!
