Lastgasp’s Octavella Upper Octave Fuzz is well known for its fantastic and complex full fat searing texture. It has so much sear on tap in fact - that you need to be very careful in particularly how you deploy the Gain and Feedback Knobs - if you ride those too high you get a very obvious feedback ’whistle’ which for me I was able to dial out for my perfect settings.
You’re basically tuning the Gain and Feedback knobs in tandem - making micro-adjustments to ensure that you don’t get any hint of that whistling feedback artefact.
Controls - Level, Tone, Gain, F.Back.
For me the ideal balance of texture and tonality is achieved with the following settings - note that you need to tweak the last bit by ear - so you get maximum sear without unnecessary artefacts. I have Level and Gain near enough @ 3 o’c, Tone is around 3:30 > 4 o’c, and Feedback is pretty much dead-centre - pointing at the five. You get such a wonderfully complex and full-on tonality with those settings. Definitely one of my most favourite Upper Octave Fuzz variants. The additional Feedback dial really helps max out the Harmonics!
Beyond the finesse on making sure you don’t get feedback artefacts - this Fuzz is actually pretty easy to dial in. It really has the most wonderful searing tonality.
This is my 3rd Lastgasp Fuzz, and the first I get from Joe’s Pedals. Where I also picked up a Gomorrah and Flikrrr Tremolo - which reviews will be out in the next week or two. The Lastgasp Fuzz I desire beyond those now 5 pedals, is the Lluna Oscillo Fuzz Drive with Voltage Dropper - which Joe doesn’t currently stock - I’m definitely getting one of those in sooner or later!
The Octavella Upper Octave Feedback Fuzz is available from the Lastgasp Art Laboratories Wesbtore for $199, and is £179 from Joe’s Pedals in the UK. Joe has priced these exceptionally favourably - and they really deserve to fly off the shelves. All 3 Lastgasp’s I’ve reviewed to-date have been amazing - the Super Oscillo Fuzz, Sooper Fuzz, and this Octavella Upper Octave Feedback Fuzz! If you’re a Fuzz Fan - you really need these in your collection!
