The colour and moniker of this new Diamond Pedals Delay accurately describes its relationship to the legacy smoother more classic Memory Lane mainstay. The controls and core functions are identical across the two pedals - it’s just the 3 core modes that are different. The Memory lane is more traditionally inspired with Modern, Warm and Vintage Modes, where the Dark Cloud has vintage inspired Tape, and then the more unusual / modern Harmonic and Reverse voicings.

I mostly use tape-style delays, and probably prefer the greater variety of delay types on the Dark Cloud - where the Memory Lane is very much more vanilla as such, and the Dark Cloud more like pistachio - in terms of ice cream flavour analogies!

The new compact reissues of the Memory Lane has been very well received - using analog signal path with digital controls to great effect - and this Dark Cloud seems to be more of the same - just with a couple of more unusual flavours in the Mix.

Controls : Delay Mix, Feedback / Repeats, Delay Time : 1000ms, Modulation, TAP/Mode : Quarter / Eighth / Dotted Eighth and Tape / Harmonic / Reverse Modes, On/Off Footswitch, Tap Tempo Footswitch / Press-hold for Momentary Tempo Doubler.

Key Features

  • Textural Delay Effects Pedal using Diamonds original digital Bucket Brigade Delay technology
  • Combines the sound and feel of analog Companding and Anti-Aliasing with an embedded system delay line
  • 3 delay styles :
    • Tape : a warm, saturated delay with synced modulation and up to 1000ms of delay time
    • Harmonic : creates either a delayed octave or fifth above the input signal
    • Reverse : plays a classic delay backward, offering a smooth and Lo-fi reversed delay with an expanded time range
  • Tap Tempo with quarter note, eighth note and dotted eighth subdivisions via dedicated footswitch
  • Doubler feature allows for instant or momentary doubling of the delay tempo
  • Selectable Trails or Kill modes when turning the pedal off
  • Top-mounted jacks and soft touch relay switching
  • Hand-made in Montreal, Canada
  • Powered by a regular 9V DC PSU - (not supplied - requires centre - 2.1 mm, ~45 mA current draw)
