It seems like Mooer and Flamma are playing some sort of game of ’Pass-the-baton’ where Mooer started down this path with its cool 7 Series of Mini Pedals - each with 7 Algorithms / Presets onboard.

Flamma Innovations then introduced Stereo to largely those same circuits and upped the enclosures to Compact Size. And now Mooer’s X2 (Times Two) series doubles down with no less than 14 Algorithms / Presets onboard, Full Stereo Ins and Outs, and Dual-Footswitches - so you can effortlessly scroll through those Modes / Presets with your foot! Looks like milled aluminium knobs too for a high quality feel overall. I’ve guesstimated the prices at circa $129-$149 equivalent as the Mooer Mini 7 Series currently goes for around $99 each.

When I first clocked these I wasn’t aware of the dual banks of 7 effects - which makes these incredibly potent at this form-factor - I will definitely be acquiring both of these at some stage - as they certainly speak to my own preferences in terms of their format and feature-set.

I’ve largely covered off the R7 X2 in yesterday’s Reverb Workstation Roundup - while here follow some even further details! :

Mooer has done a great job here with a compelling mix of algorithms in a killer form-factor. I don't believe any other Compact Stereo Delay pedal delivers quite such an appealing feature set.

One of the best things about this is how you can set your own Preset for each of those 14 Algorithms - simply be Tweaking the settings and hitting the Save Button. You can then press on both Footswitches simultaneously to access Preset Scrolling Mode - where you can effortlessly move through those presets using the Footswitches - few to none other Compact Delays empower you to do this.

I would use this as a further Supplementary Stereo Delay - most likely deployed to the #34 slot!

Controls - Tweak.1, Tweak.2, Mix, Time, Feedback, Select/Save Button, Tap Tempo Footswitch, Bypass/On Footswitch, Press-hold both to access Foot-switchable Presets Scrolling Mode. Bank LED changes from Yellow to Purple for 2nd Bank.

Algorithms :

Much the same as its D7 sibling - this delivers a superior set of Algorithms / Presets and a super-appealing form-factor.

Will certainly be acquiring this too for a some-time Rotation on slot #34 on supplementary Stereo Reverb duties.

The mix of Algorithms is just perfect here and covers all the usual suspects - including the highly desirable 'Reverse' variety.

Controls - Hi-Cut, Mix, Low-Cut, Decay, Select / Save, Pre-Delay, Infinite Footswitch, Bypass / On / Tap-Tempo, Press-hold both to access Foot-switchable Presets Scrolling Mode. Bank LED changes from Yellow to Purple for 2nd Bank.

Final Thoughts

I feel Mooer has really pushed the boat out again with a pair of highly innovative releases - previously I would have considered the Walrus Audio Mako Series D1 and R1 as my favourite pairing in this category - while the extended range coverage and ease of use here makes these my current frontrunners!

I know a lot of people moan about Mooer being largely cheap and cheerful - while they genuinely make quite a number of properly killer pedals - right across their range.

Mooer have always been the Mini Masters to me - while increasingly they are starting to impact the Compact space too!.

Are you as taken with these as I am - surely you would need to laud them on innovation alone - without getting all nit-picky on the authenticity and quality of the Algorithms. Flamma has established a strong position in a similar area - and my understanding is that there is some sort of overlap there are both brands largely seem to be delaying the same-named algorithms as such.

This new pair won't really be replacing anything in my pedal-chain as such - while they will be deployed quite frequently on supplementary duties to my existing Delays and Reverbs!
