Hot on the heels of the Leap Series 8-Mode Space Force Stereo Reverb Workstation, we get the equivalent ’Rewind’ Delay Workstation execution - featuring 2 more Modes / Algorithms for a total of 10. And including both of my Reverse and Lo-Fi Delay favourites - where alas the Space Force was missing a Reverse Reverb. So you can’t combine the two to do a sort of Walrus Audio Lore kinda thing which is a somewhat something of a pity.
The Space Force Reverb was certainly impressive - being the first Leap Series pedal - with that extended feature set all marshalled through a cool, clear compact and bijoux OLED screen. I feel Alexander has definitely stolen a march on its competitors in this regard - with a really comprehensive and user-friendly future-proof format.
As with any Time-Based Effect - it’s always about the quality and nature of its algorithms - and I feel that Alexander have most definitely got the formula right with Rewind - featuring all the obvious popular choices - and certainly covering off all of my key favourites.
The core functionality is identical to the Space Force - so all we need focus on this time around is those 10 Echo / Delay Modes / Algorithms :
It’s obviously more pedalboard-friendly than my Boss DD-200 which I think I just very marginally prefer. While I would probably take this Rewind over the Walrus Audio Mako Series D-1. Each of those has their advantages, while I feel the Rewind steals a march over the D-1 with its screen and somewhat more modern feature set - also more keenly priced!
At the time of writing I’m still waiting for my Meris LVX to land - I’ve been promised it by the end of the month - so that is occupying all my Delay bandwidth currently - along with my current favourite Boss RE-201 Space Echo and DD-200 units. (Note also my enduring love for the Empress EchoSystem).
When I next consider adding another delay workstation unit to the reference collection - the Alexander Rewind is probably the right choice for me - so much to like here!
