Mooer was due to be at the recent London Synth and Pedal Expo that I attended over the weekend, but ended up being a casualty of the Heathrow Substation Fire - the only pedal that got there in time was its GS1000 Intelligent Amp Profiling Processor and there was some kind of power supply issue with that - so it needed to be retired on the very first day!

I was hoping to see the GL100 Looper and this Prime M2 at the show - while alas neither of those pedals made it in the end!

The Prime Minimax M2 is a smart Bluetooth-controlled Multi-FX Pedal, with a 1.28" touch-screen interface, a power button, and 2 footswitches.

Controls - Looper, Bluetooth, Drums, Battery, Wireless Footswitch, Volume, Tuner, Power Button, Left Footswitch A, Right Footswitch B.

Ports - Mono In, Stereo Out, 1/8" MIDI, 1/8" Phones, USB-C, Factory Reset (use Pin).

A lot of the control functions / settings are offloaded to a Bluetooth / Mobile App - while there are quick access virtual buttons to the Looper, Bluetooth, Drums, Wireless Footswitch, Volume and Tuner functions, and a Power meter / indicator which tells you how much charge is remaining on the device.

You have 80 Presets to assign 194 Effects against. Which per the visual include 29 Overdrives, 62 Preamps, 65 Cabs, 56 Drum Grooves, 4 Unique Metronomes, and 80 minutes of Looping. The device is powered by a rechargeable 6 hour Lithium Battery (USB-C). The 80 presets are in 20 x A | B | C |  D banks - which I believe are ordered 0 to 19. There are several effects also across Modulation, Delay, Reverb, and EQ Categories (as least!) - but Mooer does not state which are included in any of its literature - neither promotional or Manual / instructional! It would have been great to have had a number for those - we don’t entirely know exactly how those 194 Effects are broken down - while surely there is plenty of everything onboard.

"The Prime M2 offers limitless flexibility through the support of its in-house MNRS sample files, as well as third-party IR sample files. Essentially, this means that users can download additional tonal emulations and effects from the MOOER Cloud and third-party sources to the device, which they can then save across those 80 preset slots."

In using devices like the Boss Katana : GO - I’ve become accustomed to doing most everything through the Bluetooth-connected Mobile App - so that methodology can work pretty well most of the time.

I like the ready access to EQ controls at least on my stompboxes - such that I can easily tweak things on-the-fly. While this app-led eco system relies more on presets and fire-and-forget dynamics. I guess I need to get one of these devices in to run a variety of tests against. I like much about the Prime M2 - but I remain to be convinced that it may be an essential device for me and my rig. I would love to hear from anyone who has any experience with this. It looks a little more advanced than the Chaos Audio Stratos - where the core concept is a little similar - Mooer’s execution looks a little more advanced overall - and the device for sure seems higher quality - and contains many smart features - but still may not be entirely right for me!

The Mooer Prime Minimax M2 is available right now for $219 / €199 / £159 - and you can read up more about said device on the Mooer Website - there do seem to be some gaps in the reference materials though - as I don’t yet have a full picture / overview of all the 194 Effects!

The Prime Minimax M2 is a definitely maybe / nice-to-have for me - while I consider its sibling GL100 Looper a must-buy for me - I just need to factor it into the schedule and priorities list.
