The White Light was first introduced in 2009 as far as I’m aware as Jamie Stillman’s clever take on those classic 70’s hard-clippers - the DOD250 and MXR Distortion+. Of course as is his way - Jamie has put his own spin on the circuit with special 3rd additional knob labelled ’Weight’ - which combines control over Low End EQ and Saturation. There’s also an additional ± 2-way Compression Switch.
The White Light was on the market for a handful of years, but was latterly solely available as DIY Build Kit. As with many of the recent endeavours I believe the initial demand for reissues came via EQD’s celebrated Japanese distributor, and now a quantity of just 2,000 is being released to EQD Dealers worldwide.
Controls - Gain, Compression ±, Level, Weight (Lows & Saturation).
The overall output profile is somewhat updated and evolved compared to the 70’s originals, and the circuit has been significantly enhanced to deliver more extended range and more refined control over the output.
You have much more control over your sound - from a clean boost - through to a really nicely textured crunchy overdrive.
The reissue circuit is much the same as the EQD original, while it sits in the newer enclosure style - with top-mounted jacks, and soft-touch Flexi-Switch Footswitch.
I’m quite the fan of extended range DOD250 style overdrives - so will likely try to get my hands on one of these. Possibly at the forthcoming March 18th London Synth and Pedal Expo. Only 2,000 pedals will be made for this run - which will be distributed among those EQD dealers who opt in on this run. Meaning you need to be quick to snap one of these up!
