Readers should know that I collect the more extended range DOD250 style overdrives - and I’ve long had the original 50/50 in the collection - where it initially emerged in 2017 I believe. So it’s good news for everyone who missed out on one of those then as we now have a reissue of this in a very slightly smaller enclosure with a flush back-plate and momentary and latching footswitches.
The core circuit and functionality is unchanged - so probably not worth getting if you already have one - as all you get that’s different in real terms is the added momentary functionality for the footswitches in the new version.
Controls - 2 x Level, Gain, Voicing : Sweet (Bright) / Normal (Stock) / Creamy (Dark), Footswitch per side.
Simple and great sounding dual DOD250 style overdrive - where collaborator Ryan Burke mostly uses the second channel to punch in a boosted kind of solo voicing - so for his purposes the Momentary functionality really matters, and makes it worth the upgrade - for my own needs - I’m perfectly happy with the previous version.
It’s one of 9 pedals I have that kind of cover similar territory - but with nuances and variances - the other circa 8 I have in that capsule collection are the BigToneMusicBrewery Gray Box Overdrive, Demiurge Brainbox (EQD Grey Channel clone w/ enhancements), Drunk Beaver Zaporizhzhia Preamp, EQD White Light Hard Clipping Overdrive, JHS Overdrive Preamp, Gear Ant Yellow Jacket Dual Overdrive, Loophole Pedals Grey Matter Dual Overdrive, and VFE Distortion 3. I love each and all of those - and probably have a few more varieties to fully round out and complete that capsule collection.
I would rather buy another variety for that collection than double down on the 50/50. But if you don't already have one of those - then it's well worth the investment!
The 50/50 Dual Overdrive is available from the Pelican NoiseWorks Webstore for $199 and equivalent!
