The StarCrash 70’s Collection re-skins 4 Catalinbread classics (Adineko, Katzenkönig, SFT, and Valcoder) and adds 2 brand new period correct pedals - a Screamer-type SideArm Overdrive, and a 70’s style StarCrash Sustaining Fuzz.
I really like the styling of these - which enclosures come in a really appealing apple-green sparkle, and where prices vary from $179 to $209 for the Adineko delay.
I only own the standard Katzenkönig from this circuit selection, I’ve had the SFT on the wishlist for a while. For this selection though I would probably go for the new StarCrash 70’s Sustaining Fuzz!
All 6 are of course available from the 70’s StarCrash Collection on the Catalinbread Webstore. I’ve also seen them on Reverb.com.
Controls - Reverb, Viscosity, Timing, Blend, Balance.
You don't get too many dedicated Oil Can style delays - a very distinctive texture for sure, and something the Adineko delivers very well. I've been intrigued by this one for a while, but not yet felt the need to add it to the reference collection!
Controls - Filter, Gain, Volume, Input.
This is a long-term favourite of mine - combining Rat Distortion and Tone Bender qualities in the one unit. There have been numerous variations and colourways / enclosure designs of this over the years - including of course the Blood Donor variants. I have the original standard edition!
Controls - Treble, Voicing : Stones / Stoner, Bass, Volume, Gain.
Catalinbread's excellent take on the Ampeg SVT Bass Amp - this one's been on my wishlist for a while, but I've still to press the trigger on this one. Really cool low-end accentuated drive / distortion.
Controls - Mids, Tone, Volume, Drive.
A Tube Screamer derivative - with extra Mids control. Pretty decent sounding for sure - but there is a lot of competition already out there at this level!
Controls - Volume, Bias, Low-Cut.
70's style Voiced Fuzz with enhanced sustain. The most likely acquisition candidate for me in this selection - but still mostly only a maybe really - as I've so many other priorities at the moment. Nice addition to the range in any case!
Controls - Depth, Speed, Output, Input.
Catalinbreads Valco Tremolo take - pleasant sounding vintage style tremolo - another with a lot of competition out there already. While not necessarily overlapping the same source material!
