So BIG EAR pedals’ Loaf Fuzz is now 10 years old. And in the wake of the very recent DOD Chthonic Fuzz, and the Loe Sounds BLow before that - this is kind of yet another Fuzz which is more honed towards single coil / bright pickups and guitars. The output profile of the fuzz has less harsh, brittle and buzzy top-end, while it retains more low end frequencies to balance the natural brightness of single coil output.
To celebrate the Loaf’s anniversary - Grant and Karen are releasing a Matt Hoopes sort of signature version of the pedal with some of his notes scripted on the facia, and with an even more enhanced Low End profile to the pedal’s output - pet Matt’s own requirements.
This is a pretty smooth, and really well balanced Silicon Fuzz with nuanced textures.
Controls - Fuzz, Tone, Volume.
Its traditional 3-knob topology makes it very easy to dial in, and gives it sufficient range to adapt to most scenarios.
I picked up a Cedar Wood facia version of this pedal a couple of years ago, along with a Walnut Wood facia Wood Cutter around the same time - as below, so I'm still thinking about whether I want / need to add this newer edition also to the collection.
For those of you who have yet to experience the delights of the BIG EAR Loaf Silicon Fuzz - now seems a good time to get onboard - with an enhanced version of that pedal / circuit.
The Matt Hoopes Loaf Fuzz edition is available for $199 - direct from the BIG EAR pedals Webstore.
