So this is actually the very first Katana ’Artist’ Head - while it comes in the same Specs as the MKII Edition Katana Artist Combo Amp. Meaning that if you like the Artist variety of Katana - you now have the option of acquiring it in Head + Cab format - as well as the existing all-in-one Combo Amp.
This of course gives you the added advantage of being able to chop and change your Speaker Cabinet - while of course Boss has you covered in that regard too - with its matching new 2 x 12" Waza Speaker loaded cabinet. The standard 2 x 12" Katana Cabinet has been out for a while, where this time around you can essentially get it with the even more articulate Waza Craft specially designed Speakers.
I personally much prefer the front-facing nature of the Katana Artist Control Topology - along with it’s extended feature range - which includes additional Tone Shape / Global EQ / Contour, and Cab Resonance controls.
Controls - Amp Type x5 + Variation, Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Booster / Mod, FX / Delay, Reverb, Tap, Bank A/B, CH1, CH2, CH3, CH4, Panel, Presence, Master, Solo, Tone Shape / Contour, Global EQ, Power Control, Cab Resonance, On Switch.
Rear Ports & Controls - AC IN, Speaker Out : 16 Ω B / 16 Ω A / 8 Ω, Effect Loop : Return / Send, Stereo : Off / Dual Link, Line Out, Power Amp In, Air Feel, Type : Rec / Blend / Live, Custom Setting : Off / M1 / M2, AUX In, Solo, GA-FC / EXP Pedal, Phones / Rec Out.
I love my own Katana MKII Combo - and wholly understand why some would prefer to own it in Head + Cab format. As I already have a 2 x Stereo Amp Setup - the 2 x 12" Speakers are a little overkill for me personally - while you do get a more resonant and slightly bossier output from such a setup. For now my Artist MKII Combo Amp is the perfect one for me - but I may update later to the slightly more balsier Head + 2 x 12" pairing.
In addition to the Standard Katana Cabinet 212 - we now get a sibling 212 Waza Edition loaded with 2 x 12" specially made - more articulate Waza Craft Speakers. Dimensions etc. are identical to the previous 212 Cab, and you get just a single port labelled 'Input 160W / 16Ω.
These speakers offer slightly more frequency coverage and more depth of detail and articulation - and are actually a fairly significant step up from the Standard Katana Speakers - obviously with a commensurate price hike too!
