Beetronics has turned out another modern classic - this time kind of leaning into a Tweed style voicing - which produces superb Overdrive and Fuzz tones via a central mode toggle-switch. I’m a touch surprised that they’ve ditched the former double-click smart mode-flip function of the footswitch - which worked so well for the Vezzpa and Octahive V2 - and are now instead relying on an old-school manual switch - a step back really for me, but cost-saving I guess.
Price for the Standard edition - as for the Octahive is $199, and $269 for a Custom edition. Note that the Custom Editions are only available from the Beetronics FX Webstore. 21 variants were made available at launch with around 1/3 snapped up already at my time of writing this - like far fewer will be left when this goes live in the morning - but there are still some really sweet varieties available - and with Beetronics - you kind of know that there will be more! In this instance the Custom variants are so much nicer than the Standard edition - that it’s almost a must!
Controls - Volume, Honey (Gain), Taste (Tone).
And while I loved the Standard look of the Octahive - the Standard Nectar doesn’t look quite so good - especially not compared to al the cool custom editions released at the same time - where I particularly like/d the look of the #002 and #008 editions - both likely gone by the time this is live!
I definitely want one of the Custom editions - but it’s a pricey enterprise for UK residents (with extra taxes + import charges + shipping) - and I don’t really have the funds for that currently - so it will be a somewhat deferred acquisition.
I really like what I’ve heard in the demos - my only concern really is whether the output volume is going to be at a level that I approve of - while everything else about this release - bar the oddity with the footswitch is pretty stellar. I do feel they could have done a better Standard Edition though!
