I’ve been meaning to do something with Fuzz Imp for a while now. I’ve actually been following Fuzz Imp’s Justus Gash for quite a few years - from early Fuzz advocate and enthusiast to fully fledged pedal maker - from his earliest grassroots beginnings up to a fairly mature profile now with a range of different pedals on offer - 16 or so varieties now all told.

It’s been a really interesting journey to witness, and I don’t think Justus has put a foot wrong yet! Hopefully my shining a light ...

2025-GPX-Fredric-Effects-Deeply-Unpleasant-Companion-MKII-Fuzz-700.jpg

Compared to yesterday’s Standard Fuzz Machine Harmonic Octave Fuzz - which was supremely well behaved and really easy to dial in - this one (the clue’s in the name!) is somewhat more unruly and ’nasty’ gated sounding - and really makes you work for your musical tones!

Controls - Gain, Volume, Blend, Tone, Scoop, Blend Bypass Switch, Tone Bypass Switch, EQ : Tone into Scoop / Scoop into Tone.

Tim has designed this pedal so smartly - and the Blend obviously makes it very useful for Bass ...

Brian Wampler delivers a Harmonic Wonderland with his superb Cryptid Multi-Fuzz

Brian has definitely wrought magic here - his alchemical prowess is strong! This is supposedly a blended circuit with a variety of transistors, and a Fetzer tube emulation in the mix too. It really does achieve its mission in producing a wide range of classic fuzz sounds - that combination of 6 controls is so clever!

It’s a vintage style circuit in some ways - meaning it has to be at the front of the chain, and can’t come after buffers - so you should be aware of that. This allows you to ...

There’s been a fair amount of re-routing and re-organising this year - which you should be able to pick via the pattern of changes. The introduction of the stereo Poly Amplitude introduced the biggest change to the board order - to get th most out of that format!

So Chase Bliss obviously laid down a seasonal marker with its magnificent take on the Mystery Box. And now it’s Blammo’s turn to impress - where all its pedals for the remainder of the year come with a free Snowman Ornament Transparent Lexan Pedal Bonus for the festive season - where said Ornament / Pedal can also hit your pedalboard if you so desire! Or else just hang from your tree!

2024-GPX-Silktone-Fuzz-Plus-700.jpg

I obviously have and love the original - with its external Bias control and super handy LED Bias Screen. The new one is simply an improvement of that already great circuit - with additional controls - and of course retaining that fantastic richly detailed harmonic germanium sound.

Silktone have also graciously maintained the price point - so you’re getting quite a bit more bang for you buck here. As before - I would of course have preferred this in a vertically oriented format, but since it...

2024-GPX-4-Multi-Stage-Gain-Machines-700.jpg

I’ve just recently covered the phenomenal Tavysh HARM Multi-Gain pedal, and thought I should look at which similarly potent multi-gain pedals I had in the reference collection. In fact while doing the preliminary for this I realised I hadn’t yet acquired the All-Pedal Devil’s Triad Essentials - which landed around a fortnight ago. I had to go to Thomann, as there were none available in the UK at the time. I actually really like using Thomann - it takes a little longer to get packages from there...

When Horrothia’s Tom started down this path, he was determined to make the most wide-ranging classic fuzz - one that allowed for the maximum of tone-shaping, and delivered octaves and feedback oscillation on top of a kaleidoscope of different tones and textures.

And what we’ve ended up with sets a new benchmark for classic fuzz, where 7 controls and 3 footswitches give you access to everything you might desire from a fuzz - there are so many clever touches to this design - that I will ...

When I first glimpsed the HARM pedal - it very much appeared to me to be the full-fat embodiment of my ’12 Degrees  of Saturation’ Methodology. Now that I’ve been road-testing it for 3 weeks, I can absolutely vouch for its potency, versatility, and prowess - its range of coverage is extraordinary!

This is the one compact pedal that can pretty much cover all your gain needs. That’s not to say it wholly accurately 100% replicates every gain pedal, while it most definitely gets well beyond the...
