Missing Link Audio (MLA) are really picking up a reputation for nailing these properly simple but smart 3-knob signature style pedals - covering off some classic Duane Allman and Billy Gibbons tones recently. And now taking on the giants of Australian Rock!
Anyone who knows anything about classic rock is very familiar with those beautifully textured cranked Marshall Plexi tones via Angus’s Gibson SG and Malcolm’s single pickup Gretsch Jet Firebird. They are the epitome of benchmark lead and rhythm tone pairings - and this new AC/OD pedal covers it all.
It sounds like the AC/OD has that same superb tone-stack as on the recent Eliminator pedal - which takes you through the gears from Fat and Dense sounding output to Bright and Open - impacting Character and Feel as well as tonality.
And the Gain knob here harbours a vast range of Marshall-like textures from really fairly low gain to that fully cranked crunchy rock and roll tone. As you crank the Gain Dial it can also add a little more Treble and Presence along the way. Where with this kind of circuit I tend to Max out most of the knobs and then rely on the superb touch-sensitivity and dynamics of the pedal - in conjunction with my guitar’s controls - so you can really clean-up and shape the output via what you do with your guitar.
This is MLA’s biggest launch to date as they’ve harnessed a number of new demo guys for the brand - all to great effect.
I’m usually in on the grapevine for these releases, so I’m not sure what I’ve done to offend this time around - but I wasn’t copied in at all!
My friends at MLA are not always the easiest to get hold of, but they do put out some really great stuff. And this is one of their best to date. From the demos this pedal just sounds superb every which way - definitely my kind of pedal - I will be reaching out to the guys to see why they Forgot about Dre this time around!
I definitely want one of these. There are several pedals already out there that do a similar thing - the Anasounds High Voltage is another AC/DC style pedal that readily springs to mind. 3 controls with additional Bass boost. I’ve always intended to get one of those too!
I probably need to get both now!
How about you - surely there are several AC/DC fans among you - do you have a signature AC/DC pedal already or do you intend to get an AC/OD or High Voltage sometime soon?
The AC/OD is available right now for $189.99 from the Missing Link Audio Webstore.
