I’m a huge fan of Black Arts Toneworks’ Muff style fuzzes and have both the Son of Pharaoh and Pharaoh Supreme editions. BAT’s new Priestess Fuzz/Distortion kind of mixes up a number of BAT’s classic flavours and gives you ultimate tonal and gain stage versatility.
Controls are - Tone, Mids, Clip 1, Clip 2, Fuzz and Volume.
The Tone Stack employed is the Violet Ram’s Head variety, and the Fuzz knob allows you to crank through 4 Gain Stages as follows :
1. Pharaoh
2. Green Russian
3. NYC Reissue with Creamy Dreamer Mod
4. High Gain (BAT)LSTR
You exercise further gain-structure control via Clip 1 and Clip 2 2-way toggle switches which add Silicon Diodes in the Down/On position, while when those switches are Up/Off they render Supa Tonebender and Pharoah flavours respectively.
The Mids are perfectly honed to give you everything from ultra scooped to Mids-pushed - covering off Vintage and Modern applications. I really like most of my Muffs to have some kind of Mids control, so this is perfect for my preferences - and in fact the topology here is really quite similar to BAT’s LSTR variety (minus the toggles obviously).
The icing on the cake here has to be that superb, gorgeous emotive artwork - which is a perfect pairing for BAT’s Egyptian themed Pharaoh editions in particular.
Pricing for this jewel box is a very reasonable $189 - and alas all those early batch editions are gone already - including a highly attractive T-shirt in the same package (as pictured above) - BAT should put some of those up for sale too! I will look to snag one from UK dealer Joe's Pedals as soon as he gets stock in - likely early next year!
I am most definitely down for one of these - do we have any BAT fans among you?
