The aesthetics of the TMA-1 heavily draw on the Hal 9000 Artificial Intelligence Unit from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 a Space Odyssey - with the red light-up lens and hole-punch panel. In fact this would seem to be a somewhat Muff-adjacent fuzz with 4 transistors / 4 Gain Stages - 2 Germanium, and 2 Silicon.
You have Germanium and Silicon [I & II] Clipping options at the Input and Output of the circuit - alongside the usual trio of Volume, Tone and Gain controls. Which all makes for a very expansive extended range fuzz - making the best use of the warm grit of Germanium and the more cutting sharpness of Silicon.
Controls - Volume, Tone, Gain, Clip 1 : I / Off / II, Clip 2 : I / Off / II [I Germanium / II Silicon].
I really like what I’ve heard of this fuzz, and it most definitely goes straight in on my fuzz wishlist for imminent acquisition. These can be ordered right now from the Acorn Amps Webstore for $199.
Anyone else like the look / sound of this?
