I’m generally a big fan of Tim Nowak’s output while I occasionally get a little confused by the diversity of graphics and design themes. I already have the HM Demon and Thunderclap V3 which make a very handsome pair. I’ve featured the HM Demon a few times not his site, while the V3 Thunderclap is still without official Demo - so that’s only really been briefly touched on - its demo should finally be out by around the middle of May!
The currently limited batch edition 2 Stroke Beaver OpAmp Muff Style Fuzz fits the same pattern as the Demon and Thunderclap - same kind of styling and knobs, theme even - and I’m keen to complete that Trifecta.
The 2 Stroke Beaver is a really interesting take on an OpAmp style Big Muff - combining 8-way Clipping, 5-Band Graphic EQ, Clean Blend Control, and HM-2 EQ Footswitch.
Controls - Level, Clipping x 8, Sustain, 5-Band Graphic EQ, Clean Blend Control, Left Engage Footswitch, Right HM-2 EQ Footswitch.
The different EQ bands are nicely indicated / referenced - 100 | 250 | 500 | 1K | 3K, and the 8 Clipping Modes are as follows :
I’m a such a fan of Big Muffs (70+ in the reference collection already) - and this one is genuinely different to what has come before - which really makes it a must have for me. Being able to apply 5 Bands of EQ to a Big Muff is immense. And then you have the Blend Control which will really appeal to bass players, and the HM-2 EQ switch to deliver an even more crushing Twin Peaks Chainsaw Style Distortion profile.
For now these have just been made in 2’s and 3’s in a handful of batches - while I really feel this should be another mainstay on the Bardic Audio Devices Roster.
I’m already a little overcommitted for April - but as soon as my schedule clears up a little - I will be ordering one of these from Tim. They’re currently pretty reasonably priced at $220 - and hopefully I will have that in the reference collection soon enough.
For now I will leave you with the handsome family portrait of this Trifecta as below!
