David Rolo always makes distinctly unique devices, and this Kiwami is no exception - in uniquely combining a Dual Resonant Filter (bi-directional) with Ring Modulation, Flanging, and Aliasing.
You have quite an extensive control topology to help you get the most out of this format - which essentially takes Resonant Filtering into new and interesting textural areas.
Controls - Decay (Effect Fade), Envelope Sensitivity, Gain, Volume, LFO Rate, LFO Depth, Frequency Range, Resonance, Wave Selector : Ramp Up / Ramp Down / Square Wave / Triangle Wave / Sinewave / Lumps / Stepped / Random, Filter Selector : Up / Up & Down / Down, Effect Selector : RingMod / Flanger / Aliaser, Effect : < Static | Off | Dynamic >, Tap Tempo Footswitch, On/Bypass Footswitch.
The below demo well-illustrates the sounds you can produce with this device. I have personally still to decide how much use I have for those kinds of sounds, while I can see the Kiwami delivering something quite a bit different for a lot of players. David’s takes on different genre formats are always intriguing - and he’s built up a range for very unique and different pedals - there’s still a number of his on my wishlist - including the Twin Peaks Harmonic Tremolo, the Hogweed Octave Up & Down Fuzz, and Lilac Cloud Fuzz.
David’s pedals are made in small batches - which sell out almost instantly - which is of course the case here too, as the first batch was gone even before I clicked on the notification email. There should be more fairly soon, where you need to keep your eyes on the Drolo Webstore for imminent and future restocks. When in stock, this pedal can be had for €240 and equivalent (Exc. Tax) - which amounts to around $250.
You can read up more about the Kiwami on the Drolo Website, and access the Manual!
