Peavey matches Marshall with 5 of its own classic Amp and Preamp Series Pedals - Session LTD 400, Decade, VTM, Bandit, and Rock Master

I’m not sure who announced these first, while we have a cool symmetry in that both Marshall and Peavey have announced 5 new guitar pedals based on their best loved amps - all at around the same time.

In fact the Peavey varieties are closer to what I would have expected from Marshall - where those more fully represent their original source amps - with the full complement of expansive controls. While Marshall stuck to just 4 controls on each. In some ways the Marshall ones look more attractive in that particular gold and black aesthetic - with gold footswitches and Halo LEDs, while the Peavy ones deliver more of an authentic amp-experience - where each of them have the equivalent of 3-Band EQ, where most of the Marshall ones are reduced to a single tone control.

So apart from the aesthetics, the Peavey ones have far more appeal for me (except perhaps the Marshall JVM!) - even though they are considerably pricier - the Marshall ones are at around $149, while these Peavey Amp Pedals are at $199 currently. You can see them all on the Peavey Webstore!

So this is the rough chronology of Amps that those pedals are based on :

  • 1974 : Session LTD 400 Amp
  • 1980 : Decade Amp
  • 1987 : VTM 60 / 120 Amp
  • 1990 : Bandit 112 Supreme 160 Teal Stripe Amp
  • 1990 : Peavey Rock Master Amp

There are already excellent compact edition pedals from other brands for some of those models - in particular the Acorn Solid State Preamp take on the Decade - which I have and love, and the Master Effects Marauder take on the Teal Bandit.

Of these 5 I’m most interested in the less covered Rock Master, Session LTD 400, and VTM. In fact the VTM looks the most intriguing to me, and would be the one I most likely went for If and when I decide to pick up one or more of these!

Unlike the Marshall Pedals there aren’t individual demos out on each pedal, in fact just the one video so far! The pedals do sound pretty great in that one demo - but of course the acid test is how theses pedals sound and feel in your rig, and how much range they have - in particular volume!
