In a sea of Surfy Reverb pedals SolidGoldFX makes the case for one more upper echelon compact candidate - with its latest Surf Rider IV Modulated Reverb.
Controls - Decay, Level (Wet Signal), Tank : Small / Surf Rock / Flappier Springs, Dwell (Liveliness) / Modulation Speed, Body (Fatness) / Modulation Depth. Engage Footswitch - Hold for Flutter / Modulation. Internal dip-switches to set Momentary to Latching function of Footswitch, and True Bypass or Buffered Bypass with Trails.
This 4th edition of the Surf Rider shrinks the package down to compact dimensions - and sheds one of the footswitches of the former larger units. The new Footswitch is multifunctional - where a quick press typically engages or bypasses the effect, while a press-hold activates the modulation. I presume the secondary knob parameters are activated too when you press-hold said footswitch, You have internal dip-switches to control how this engages, and whether you have true bypass or buffered bypass with tails / trails.
So the format is improved for sure, and the pedal is all the better for it.
Via the ’Tank’ toggle-switch you have 3 different Spring Tank options at your disposal :
These pedals are made as usual in Montreal, Canada and are available right now on the SoldGoldFX Webstore - with a pricetage of $209 / €219 / £189. Should be arriving at dealers imminently too!
SolidGoldFX is definitely on a roll recently with Time-Based Effects and this is another killer pedal in that series - joining the equally formidable EM-III and Ether. I wonder why the other two have dual footswitches and not the Surf Rider? Works well nonetheless.
