As part of its Custom Shop offering Fulltone will be producing limited quantities of a custom OCD pedal in a sort of duotone Teal Metallic enclosure. The core OCD makes use of 2 Mosfets as hard clippers alongside a single Germanium Diode. While the limited edition Ge / Germanium version adds a second Germanium Diode for more tube-like feel and dynamics. The OCD famously routes its hardclippers to Vref rather than ground - as is common to most overdrives - this give the OCD those fantastic dynamics alongside that beautiful crunch tone that I so love.

I have and love my own OCD V1.7 and even though the now roughly one year old V2 has a number of improvements:

  • Internal Enhanced Bypass / True Bypass switch
  • Output Buffer always on in Enhanced Bypass Mode, and when pedal is active in True Bypass mode
  • Class A configured discretions 2N5457 JFET Input Section

I never felt the need to upgrade - my 1.7 still really sounds great and still wholly appeals to me - so there was no cause really for me to move to the V2.

The V2 has been made in 3 different colourways now - the standard cream version, a limited standard version in Black, and a Candy Apple Red version made by the Custom Shop.

The core standard V2 OCD is currently discounted to $127.20 (from $159), while the Black versions are mostly sold out now - you'd need to hunt around the dealers and Reverb.com for one such. The Candy Apple Red Custom shop version is still available at $179, while release date and pricing for the Teal limited edition has yet to be revealed - though I expect it to be at a similar level to the Red version - possibly $10 more or so?

I had considered the Red version for a while as a cool way to own the V2, but the one I'm most likely to acquire now is the Teal version when it arrives sometime in the next few weeks. My Fulltone selection currently stands at 3 - Más Malo, OCD and Plimsoul - and I really rate all those and look to be extending that selection in the near future as Michael Fuller's pedals are uniformly excellent throughout the range - and typically very reasonably priced too!
