It seems fitting for Fuzz-Friday to feature the finally released Vexter Edition of Zvex’s celebrated Fuzz Factory 7 Pedal - which essentially adds 2 further controls into the mix compared with the standard 5-knob Fuzz Factory edition. Namely a Tone control (Highs) and 9-position Fat control (Lows).
The typically hand-painted editions of Fuzz Factory 7 go for circa $549 so the still American Factory-made UV / Screen-Printed Vexter edition at $399 is substantially more ’affordable’. Internals are exactly the same as for the hand-painted editions - where the current Germanium Transistor pairing is of the Soviet Flying Saucer variety - typically GT380V or similar for current batches - fetchingly painted a sort of fuchsia colour here.
Controls - Tone, Volume, Gate, Comp, Drive, Stab (Stability / Starve), Fat (9-position low-end rotary dial), Tone Bypass Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
I’ve always wanted a Fuzz Factory 7 - while I’ve somewhat balked at the usual $549 price tag pf the hand-painted edition. The lower price is still a pricy proposition for most - but certainly within slightly easier reach - or fewer payment instalments!
In many ways Chase Bliss’s Bliss Factory takes the Fuzz Factory to similar levels of granularity and expansiveness - so I’m kind of covered already. The latest SoldGoldFX If 6 Was 9 BC183 MKII is also a contender - albeit a Silicon variety as is Zander Circuitry’s latest Siclone.
Would be interesting to hear from existing Fuzz Factory 7 owners as to whether the step-up to 7 controls is worth the additional premium.
