The original Simble was my very first Dumble Drive pedal, and I still have very warm feelings about that beautifully balanced, organic and natural sounding Overdrive. For several years this was my favourite of that type - and I always felt that the wood-finish enclosure was very representative of its organic sound.
I guess Mad Professor are now reserving the brown colourway for their Brown Sound #1 Pedal. It’s cool to see the more emphatic Mad Professor branding on said pedal - where the was absent from the original.
I probably still somewhat prefer the tone-on-tone nature of the original - while I can understand that the new red edition will possibly appeal to a wider demographic.
Controls - Level (Output), Sensitivity (Gain & Compression), Contour (Tone, Unity at Noon), Accent (Brightness / Edge).
The new version has been lovingly upgraded by original Simble circuit designer Lassi Ukkonen - in this MK2 incarnation the circuit had More Headroom, Brightness, and Openness.
I will for sure be adding one of these to the collection - even though I may still overall prefer the Demon Kondo-Shifuku and Tanabe Zenkudo. The Simple is definitely one of the great takes / flavours of Dumble Drive / Dumble ODS.
The new MK2 Simble is available for pre-orders right now - where one can be had for €199 ($215 / £165) and equivalent on the Mad Professor Webstore - and imminently at leading International Dealers.
