John Snyder once more extracts the I.V.P. side from the Dude Incredible (V2.5) - as the stand-alone Surveyor Preamp / Overdrive. Obviously the I.V.P. is based on the celebrated Intersound Rackmount Instrument Voicing Preamplifier - known for its somewhat ’clangy’ tone and harsh attack at higher treble settings. It’s a pretty distinct sounding overdrive / preamp with versatile applications across a number of different instruments.
"The Surveyor features a unique, transformer-loaded “Tube Voice” distortion generator that is highly responsive to the frequency content of the input signal. This is achieved by placing a two-band shelving EQ before distortion is applied—the complete opposite of most drive pedals. Using this method, gain may be selectively applied to a specific frequency band: boost the treble for that signature clang, or maximize the bass for fuzz overload. This variety of saturated textures isn’t just for guitar, either! The Surveyor is equally at home on bass, synthesizers, drum machines, even vocals."
Controls - Level, Gain, Active Bass (±12dB @ 100Hz), Active Treble (±12dB @ 3kHz, Gain : Hi (+14dB) / Lo.
I love John Snyder’s compact pedals in particular - while I already have the surveyor onboard my V1 Dude Incredible. I’m caught now between whether I get the V2 Dude Incredible - or just the I.V.P. side of that. The decision could go either way!
For sake of comparison the Surveyor is $249 from the EAE Webstore, while the 2-in-1 I.V.P. + Percolator is just $50 more at $299, albeit currently out of stock! For me it makes more sense to won the Dude Incredible. What are your thoughts on this conundrum. If you already had the V1 Dude Incredible, would you rather get just the Surveyor @ $249, or the extended range Dude Incredible V2 @ $299.
