So I’m falling a little behind on my Walrus Audio Overdrives - I’ve been meaning to get the 385 MKII for a while - where I think I prefer the black edition - that one just hasn’t quite happened yet - but will eventually! And now we have another essential one - very much an extended range Klone type, with some significant smarts onboard - so that one is a target for me also.

I’ve only fairly recently picked up a Walrus Monumental Tremolo, and just this Sunday I landed a Mako II Series [M1] - so it’s not as if Walrus isn’t getting my full support. While I’m not properly connected with that brand - and as a result other more cost-effective opportunities typically take priority. I write quiet a few articles for Walrus - so it would be nice to have a contact there at some stage!

I’m definitely getting both their recent compact Overdrives - they’re both exactly my sort of thing - while as I don’t have any kind of discounts on these yet - it has to be a matter of somewhat opportunistic nature. Funnily this Voyager MKII is really quite similar to the Walrus 5-State Series of Ages, Eras and Eons - but here the 5 Modes sit to the right of the interface rather than in the middle.

Controls - Volume, Tone, Gain, Mid ±, Mid Freq. Focus : 350Hz / 550Hz / 2kHz, MODE : I. GE 1N34A / II. GE 1N34A + Bass Boost / III. Symmetric SI / IV. Asymmetric SI / V. Asymmetric SI + Bass Boost, Bypass Footswitch, Mid Footswitch.

It’s fascinating how the market is all of a sudden flooded with 1N34A Diodes which used to be super scarce - surely not all of these can be the original NOS 1N34A - while those are for sure very nice sounding.

I’m a fan of Klone Overdrives, and Extended Overdrive Pedals in particular - so this one particularly suits my sensibilities - both editions look really good here - it’s a tough choice between the actual Voyager Probe on mint green enclosure, or the all-black Space Helmet one. I think I prefer the Mint Edition one more here  - but we’ll see where I sit when I finally land one!

I really like how you have a Mids Boost on an independent / separate footswitch! So you kind of have a two channel version of a Klone as such. Which makes this one pretty distinct and unique!

Ticket price on these is $249.99 - which seems about right! Of course available right now on the Walrus Audio Webstore, and at leading dealers worldwide.
