The big news is of course the the Lithium-Ion Rechargeable battery which uses the now universal USB-C cable format. We can now change the screen to 8 different HUES of LED (as pictured), there are also 65 Sweetened tunings aboard vs the 50 of the previous HD model, and we have a slightly different transposition range (-6 to +5 whereas the StroboClip HD has -4 to + 7 and C,F,Bb, Eb Keys). These changes were brought in to bring the StroboClip into line with the other StroboStomp pedals - all now the best of their kind.
Looks-wise I really love the now mostly sold out Gold Anniversary Limited Edition (with matching screen hue) - as pictured. While the StroboStomp mini is really where it’s at nowadays - with the same potency as its bigger sibling - but in a far smaller enclosure - with still superbly highly visible screen - and of course top-mounted jacks.
So I pictured all 3 key Peterson Tuners together - so you can compare them for size and price - the corner pictures are roughly 1:1 in ratio - so you get an idea of their impact. I mostly use the StroboClip these days - and it even works a treat on my Electric Cello. That super-smart ’Jaw’ can make the tuner fit onto near enough any and every stringed instrument.
For me the two to get nowadays are definitely the new StroboClip HDC - so much more convenient now with its recharge ability - and the supreme StrobStomp Mini - I will for sure be upgrading my StroboClip HD to this HDC model, and I’ve been promised a StroboStomp Mini at some stage - those two should see me through everything.
Even though I do like other brand’s offerings too - and really rate tuner pedals from Boss, Sonic Research, TC Electronic and the new Walrus one - I’m of the opinion that the two Peterson ones mentioned are the best you can get nowadays. The Stroboscopic tuning method is so high-precision that it can take a little longer to ’settle down’ for some. So a few players prefer other tuners that get them mostly there but quicker - while I’m all about the accuracy! An important thing to remember is that all tuners are slightly different - and as a band you should all be using the same make and model ideally - and the best of those to my mind are most definitely the two I’ve just mentioned.
The StroboClip HDC should be arriving at dealers imminently, and is of course available for orders on the Peterson Tuners Webstore too - going for the super-affordable price of $79 | €89 | 79.
