The new MGAT-1 GE Golden Era looks eerily similar to its stablemate predecessor. It has exactly the same control topology - but the bottom left Mid Range Toggle is no longer segmented as High, Low and Mid, but instead has ’1987X’, ’1959 SLP’, and ’2203’ labels.
Mr Wu further states :
"This is the first time I proposed the concept of dynamic similarity, which means that no matter how you change the volume on your guitar, no matter how you adjust the gain and volume on both MGAT-1 GE and the Marshall amp, the MGAT-1 GE can get up to 99% similarity to the original Marshall amp. I bet you can’t hear the difference, and you can’t play the difference. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true!" [some syntax edits made!]
"To three of my all time favorite Marshall AMPs 1959SLP/1987x/JCM800!!! The MGAT-1GE also has one of my signature Marshall high gain tones, I’ll explain it later!"
"MGAT-1 GE has three channels, OD- and OD channels correspond to plexi and jcm800 respectively. OD+ channel is the tone of Marshall high gain in my mind, which is completely different from the high gain tone of a JCM2000!"
"One of the most important features is the Gold Era filter switch (previous MGAT-1 Mid Range switch), which allows you to select the characteristic frequency response of the three classic Marshall amp heads!"
Where the original MGAT-1 was just a single model / edition. For the MGAT-1 GE Golden Era - Mr Wu has created two editions. A DS99 highly limited lighter colourway edition of only 99 units, and the main First Edition of the MGAT-1-GE - which will be available in 250 units. So there will be a total of 349 units available for this model - both will have the exact same circuits / internals.
The DS99 are mainly reserved for Regular Loyal Sinvertek Customers like myself - and my edition has already been secured and paid for. These are all being handmade by Mr Wu, and I’ve been told that mine will take 6 weeks to make and deliver - so presumable arriving early January.
Both DS-99 and First Edition MGAT-1-GE variants have the same pricetag of $349 plus delivery. So $369 for us Europeans - I believe US Mainland delivery is free - as these typically ship from California.
As usual if you want one you need to be nice to Sales Manager Tina - and send her an email to officialsales@sinvertek.com - where she will add you to the list, and in due time - if you’re quick enough - send you instructions for a PayPal payment.
The process is a little odd on occasion and can take a few days. Obviously I’ve been dealing with Tina for years now - so I’m kind of on the priority list. But she will get around to all of you in relatively quick order if you are polite and ask nicely!
The last few Sinvertek / CKK pedals have been nothing short of amazing. Presumable this new version of the MGAT-1 has a little more of that classic / vintage amp sag and beefy low end profile. The MGAT-1 was already magnificent - and the best Distortion of all time for me. So I have high expectation of this new one.
We likely won’t see / hear any demos until mid-January or so - so for those of you who are not already part of the Sinvertek family or fandominium - it may require something of a leap of faith. These seem overly complicated and slightly pricey - but they are not. Considering how incredible these sound and what goes into them - they’re worth every penny. And they’re really not that complicated to use - it’s mostly just setting everything in the middle initially - and then ramping up or down!
I look forward to hearing from all my Sinvertek pals - for when we all start to receive our pedals. My USA-based friends always get theirs up to a week before me - because of local shipping - vs over-the-pond shipping!
My MGAT-1 was serial number #2 - so it will be interesting to see how quick off the mark I was for this one!
I will leave you with the 3 killer demos of the previous MGAT-1 - in anticipation of the never more focused / specialist version.
