My second Flattley pedal is the Guitarist Magazine ’Choice’ awarded and ’2022 Gear of the Year’ - Revolution Dynamic Overdrive. Essentially originally derived from a Tube Screamer style circuit, while only the first Silicon variety of its Clipping Modes / Voices can be described as being a Screamer type - and a very excellent take on that genre indeed - as Brett Kingman attests to below.

The second Opamp voicing is really full-throated and beefy with more thickness and low end - somewhat reminiscent of a Boss Blues Driver in its dynamics while it doesn’t have the same degree of crunch as that but similarly excellent guitar volume knob gain-cleanup.

And finally the LED Clipping voicing delivers a more open and even mid-bodied tonality with beautiful sustain.

All 3 controls have plenty of range on them and this overdrive is incredibly quick and easy on the dial-in.

Note that the Silicon Clipping option results in a significant volume-drop - while the Opamp and LED voicings are properly LOUD!

This is of course another one of Flattley’s Platinum Series Pedals - which has been hydro-dipped in a 9-step process - including metal flakes and several stages of buffing. And on top we have those cleverly engraved custom aluminium knobs and Footswitch Topper - with the elegant Halo LED surrounding said footswitch - per the below visual.

Controls - Volume, Drive, Tone, Clipping / Diodes : Silicon / Opamp / LED

3 x Voices :

  • Silicon Diodes - Tighter, more compressed, more focused - classic Screamer voicing
  • Opamp Clipping - Thicker and Beefier Full Flavour with BD-2 style dynamics
  • LED Diodes - Mid-bodied open profile with beautiful sustain

If you're looking for a Tube Screamer overdrive - then this delivers that and a lot more besides - while this is also a properly foundational full flavour overdrive with lots more tones and textures than most with an equivalent feature set.

All voicings sound great - while I love the Opamp variety the most, followed by the LED Clipping. Brett Kingman ably demonstrates how well this works as a mostly boost - with the Drive Knob mostly dialled back, and then you wind up the throttle and get those beautiful thick and juicy textures - particularly on the Opamp mode.

A really clever all-rounder overdrive - elevated further by its attention to detail on the production side - no pedal out there has a more evolved paint job process than these Flattley Platinum Series types - they have a lovely deep 3D sparkle to them - which can only really be witnessed first-hand. Pictures cannot do these pedals justice - they really shimmer with their depth of detail.

The Flattley Revolution Overdrive is yours for £259 and equivalent direct from the Flattley Webstore, and at selected dealers worldwide.
