As a follow-up to the enormously entertaining Maisy Millar Zander Circuitry voiceover Video (which I shall reference at the base of this article) the happy couple have teamed up again to deliver the Perfect First Effects Pedals introductory book for Children - a sort of toddler’s guide to stompboxes!
With a cast of 8 cute cartoon component characters, that you can see on the front cover, Alex & Maisy’s ’Wonderful Noise Awaits’ tackles 13 different key Effects Types / Stompboxes from the simplest of perspectives. Each Effect is introduced via a colour-coordinated 2-page spread in line with the colours indicated in the index - as shown on the left of the top visual. Text is highly simplified and rather sparse as befits the target audience.
For our purposes we are giving you a preview of a couple of those spreads here - first 'Overdrive' in Orange (above), and then 'Flanger' in Vibrant Pink / Fuchsia (below). The remainder will have to be a surprise - while they obviously follow a very similar route.
We recommend that the perfect audience is children / infants from around two years upwards. Original concept and artwork are by Alex Millar. Alex and Maisy then wrote the text together.
There have been a few great Effects Pedal Books over the years - including of course the Boss Book, Pedal Crush, and the recent StompBox Books. 'Wonderful Noise Awaits' is obviously not as complex and full-ranging as some of those, but every bit the equal in impact for its core target audience.
Of course it is quite obviously the best way to get the kids into enjoying your own favourite hobby and supporting you in your lifestyle choices! - So you best get them started on the right path as early as possible!
The book is currently available on pre-order on the Zander Circuitry Website - for £25. The initial batch will be relatively small - I expect the following batches to be quite a bit more sizeable.
Here below again is Maisy's excellent voiceover work - I'm hoping Alex and Maisy make an animation at some time in a similar vein - and of course with another witty Maisy voiceover.
