The MXR Phase 95 Mini has long been king of the Mini Phasers with its 45/90 2-Stage / 4-Stage Phasing - in Block Logo or Script Voicings. The new Deep Phase Mini doubles the number of stages to 4-Stage / 8-Stage, and doubles the controls with the addition of a FDBK / Feedback knob.
It’s still supremely easy to dial in the Phase - which goes thicker, richer and chewier than the Phase 95 - especially on the 8-Stage mode. There’s not really much more to say here. It’s the exact same form factor and same ease of use as its forerunner and pioneering sibling.
I’ve had the Phase 95 for the longest time - I use that fairly sporadically - typically near the front of the chain, while the main Phaser slot is now #34 (currently occupied by the Strymon Zelzah 4 Stage + 6 Stage Stereo Multi-mode phaser). The Deep Phase Mini is a relatively low cost phaser at $130 (£139) and I will most definitely add this to the collection at some stage - while with 14 phasers already to my name this is unlikely to be an imminent priority. But I am doing a ’2021 Year of Phaser’ article - so will likely snap it up during that process!
Any of you own the Phase 95? And would you be looking to add the Deep Phase too - or rather swap it in?
Ibanez’s recent mini phaser is also a decent proposition (3 knob) - while I would rather currently get the matching pair of the Phase 95. I’ve actually been after a Stereo Phase 99 for a long while - although that got discontinued within the last 12 months or so - and prices are up, and availability down! Update - snagged a Phase 99 too - just the Deep Phase to go!
I will surely call it a day for a while once I add the Deep Phase - that will bring my own Phaser Capsule Collection to 15 - which is surely enough for now! Notably that will be my 9th phaser acquisition this year! Possibly a Flanger focus for next year - or perhaps Choruses even!
