So this is the final phase of the range revamp, bringing the Twain Dual Band / Stacked Compressor up to date with the other models. This is a refined and improved model over its predecessor - with serial changes inside and out.
Like the Stella - you now have the option of having the DITOS transformer-enhanced Balanced DI Out factory fitted by default.
And we see some significant updates with the Feed Forward / Feed-Back section, and Side Chain Filters. While the dual saturation engines on the dry line of the previous model have been removed.
The ICs have been updated to Burr Brown FET technology for ultra low noise and pristine processing - due to the complex circuit which incorporates the Crossover EQ. The filters in the crossovers require several ICs and although this is the optimal high-end way to go - those are more expensive while they are essential for ensuring that there is no loss in signal quality. The DITOS also uses very high end line drivers for driving the transformer, again, with the aim to ensure pristine high-fidelity sound processing.
Overall the Stella is still more granular on an individual channel basis (including Manual Attack and Release) - while the power of the TWAIN is in its Dual Band processing - where those A/B channels can also be stacked for even more impact and intensity.
The Nature of the Twain is that via its Dual Band nature - you can target 2 different frequency clusters at the same time or double down on the same one. At its core we still have the essential Blackmer VCA’s and 4320 THAT Analog Engine - here in duplicate.
Significant parts of the signal path have been upgraded for an even more pristine and precision-honed advanced studio-style compressor.
This is more of a specialist tool than the Stella, where each has its own advantages. These compressors work equally well for Guitars as well as Bass and other Line Instruments. Following the move to Vienna, Austria, all parts of the range are now fully upgraded and improved.
I feel that the Twain excels in particular for Bass applications, and getting more snap into those lower frequency ranges!
The Twain can be ordered direct from the Becos FX Webstore - where the DITOS-loaded model goes for €359, for those in the UK you will be able to order one imminently from Joe’s Pedals - for £359. UDPATE! - In stock at Joe’s Pedals now!
