If you’ve read my Part 1 Guitar Heroes Feature - you will know that Lari features within that list of initial 25 favourites. I was first aware of her - when she did various guest performances on Pete Thorn’s Channel a few years back, and I loved her expansive playing style from the start. She has such an elegant touch in how she plays - and she can handle almost any style with ease. She’s for sure a guitarist I’ve long admired.
So I’m glad she finally and deservedly gets her own Signature ...
As part of ThorpyFX’s 10 Year Anniversary Celebrations (born on 2nd November 2014) - they’re encouraging everyone to get a ’caked’ version of any of the current pedal models. Thorpy is obviously making the most use of his new super-duper Roland 4-Colour UV Printer!
And I had a lot of fun creating this visual on a background of 100’s & 1000’s / Sprinkles!
Single pedal editions will be base-coat painted yellow - with the cake design on both outward facing sides. I personally think there ...
I’ve just recently covered the phenomenal Tavysh HARM Multi-Gain pedal, and thought I should look at which similarly potent multi-gain pedals I had in the reference collection. In fact while doing the preliminary for this I realised I hadn’t yet acquired the All-Pedal Devil’s Triad Essentials - which landed around a fortnight ago. I had to go to Thomann, as there were none available in the UK at the time. I actually really like using Thomann - it takes a little longer to get packages from there...
So Fractal Audio Systems has thrown its hat in the ring with its first non-modelling device / unit - the VP4 Virtual Pedalboard Multi-FX Processor - which is quite a departure for the brand.
It’s obviously gunning for Line 6 and Eventide in particular, but also looking to knock out Boss and Strymon Workstation pedals. It has several of its own advantages, but with a number of caveats too. Overall it’s well priced for what it delivers - but for my own preferences it’s still somewhat over-...
So in a similar way to yesterday’s Caroline Wave Cannon Zero being the best version of that pedal to-date - the same can be said of LPD’s Lucent Boost Overdrive, the second of that variant, and in fact the third Lucent iteration overall.
Lawrence makes no secret of the fact that this is a BluesBreaker derived circuit, but a highly modified and evolved one at that. Some seems to be surprised by the dual boost action, but this is not as uncommon as you might think, my recent All-Pedal Devil’s...
When I first glimpsed the HARM pedal - it very much appeared to me to be the full-fat embodiment of my ’12 Degrees of Saturation’ Methodology. Now that I’ve been road-testing it for 3 weeks, I can absolutely vouch for its potency, versatility, and prowess - its range of coverage is extraordinary!
This is the one compact pedal that can pretty much cover all your gain needs. That’s not to say it wholly accurately 100% replicates every gain pedal, while it most definitely gets well beyond the...
So I’ve obviously covered each of these pedals individually and in real depth - so please refer to the earlier articles if you need more details. The purpose of this exercise is to pick out my favourite/s from the series - which is really about comparing those 4 pedals head-to head across my 2 favourite settings for each - pitting one against the other - back and forth - until we have a preferences.
Note - that if you want to skip all the preamble - you can just scroll down to the bottom ...
Another strong month for sure! A little dominated by Keeley Electronics, but some solid releases over the month - with a crazy flurry towards the end - to coincide with Europe’s largest Guitar Gear Show - Mannheim’s Guitar Summit. It seems evident now that Guitar Summit is an event I should really be at - and I will make a concerted effort to be their next year.
As it was I attended just one guitar gear event this month - EarthQuaker Devices Showcase at GuitarGuitar in Camden - where I got ...
Considering my well documented fallout with this brand - this is a slightly odd article for me. I might not get along with said brand name head honcho - but Jackson Audio still make some very decent pedals. They’re not necessarily always the best sounding overall, but in terms of their format innovation, build quality, feature set and usability they’re still a formidable force.
Pedal industry relationships are always complex - as they don’t just involve the builders, but distributors and ...
And so the second (for me) in the Keeley 4-in-1 Series, combines the Tone Stacks and Drive Clipping from the Marshall BluesBreaker Overdrive, and Fulltone OCD Drive / Distortion. The colour accent and knobs here are a fetching hue of blue - otherwise identical looking to the previously reviewed Noble Screamer.
The BluesBreaker side as such has a High Frequency Filter Tone Stack, and Soft Drive Clipping, while the OCD has an Active Midrange Boost with High Frequency Roll-Off, and a Hard ...
